This is a two-day guided workshop offering the opportunity to learn new ways of using acrylic paint on paper and canvas, with the option to also explore using collage, crayon, pens, charcoal and other media.

I will take you through some fun, easy exercises to warm up each day. We will experiment and play, practising different ways to use the materials to create a variety of effects. We will also use different tools to achieve a range of mark making and pattern. Over the 2 days we will each have 2 large canvases to work on, building up in layers to create texture and depth, intuitively taking our work towards a finished place.

We will intersperse our time on the canvas with paper studies, practising a variety of techniques that we can then take back to the canvas. We will play with colour, pattern, lines, contrast, abstraction and motifs. I will also share colour mixing knowledge. As well as regular demonstration’s during the course, I will be fully available for support through out the 2 days.

All materials will be provided and you will finish with paintings on canvas and other artwork on paper to take home with you.

Achieved the art I was crying out for

I discovered Kate on the last day of the Devon Open Studios this year. I loved her work and how it made me feel, so much, that I was delighted to be able to sign up for her Intuitive Painting Workshop. It didn't disappoint. She was so inspiring and helpful that she led me gently to produce the sort of art I had been crying out to achieve, but didn't know how.

Gentle guidance from thinking to intuition

Kate gently guided us away from "thinking" towards "intuition" so the images appeared in an organic way. I experienced the feeling of chaos with my work at one point and was guided to quieten the image using colour and technique. The time went so quickly. Kate was extremely generous with her knowledge and the equipment she provided. It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and I learned a lot about herself as well as painting and intuitive creativity. It was an inspiring weekend workshop which I highly recommend.

Inspiring results that others love

It has been fun and surprising to see people's reactions to my creations since the weekend, I went for a cuppa with a friend who lives near your studio after the course, and she liked one of my pictures so much it's now on her kitchen wall! And some relatives of mine came round and really liked the canvas with a very swirly sky on it that I was going to paint over once I got some paints, and that is now on the wall at their house! So it's nice that your inspiration has rippled out to others in this way.

Wonderfully balanced workshop experience

I found the whole workshop to be really well balanced in all aspects. All support, materials, timing, information were really well considered and effective. I appreciated the sensitivity to the group dynamic both for individuals and as a whole. Whilst guidance and ideas were given and shared it also allowed room for everyone's creative journey and expression. As a beginner I found it to be very supportive and inspiring. Tea and cake, some lovely music and conversation all enhanced the experience. A very worthwhile and uplifting weekend for me. Thank you.
