3 weeks to Devon Open Studios

The Devon Open Studios is roughly 3 weeks away now!
I like to think of all of the artists who are taking part, all over Devon, like myself, who will be refining their work, ordering cards, getting their spaces ready for the public and losing sleep at night in anticipation.
This year, along with Mark Jessett and Amanda Pellatt, I have been awarded the Emerging Artist Bursary. I received this award a few months ago which was a fantastic surprise and some welcome encouragement. It came with extra publicity and lead to a  photo of myself on the front cover of the Open Studio brochure!
I have definitely felt some extra pressure but to frame this positively it has stretched me to go further and break new ground with my painting practice.
For months I have been painting vibrant and colourful pieces inspired by my reaction to nature, the seasons and my surroundings. But recently my quieter self has been drawn to use a pale and more subtle palette.
I will share images of my current body of work with its 2 themes on my website very soon.

work in progress

This past year has taken me in a new direction  with my painting. I am still very much inspired by nature and this shows itself in a subtle way with a few marks and plant imagery.

However all though I have continued painting intuitively, I have explored new colours and fluid lines as opposed to repeated pattern. Finding balance within imbalance.

I have been drawn to bright colours such as yellow and fluorescent pink along with various blues and pale greens. A new departure.

For me exploring a new way of approaching the canvas keeps the practice exciting and helps me stay fresh and lively and in the moment.

I will be exhibiting around 10 large and vibrant paintings in September 2018 Devon Open Studios along with cards and prints.

My Studio/Gallery space is at 10b South Street, Totnes.

More details about the location of the venue can be found in the brochure and here on my website.
