An abstract painting of a classic Cornish harbour on a peaceful day.

With sweeping brushstrokes suggesting reflections in shallow water and bold, simplified forms echoing the enduring harbour walls, confident, gestural marks, textural layering and minimal composition transport the viewer straight to the coast.

Quiet Harbour is a contemporary tribute to a much-loved maritime landscape.

Acrylic on Canvas 48cm by 48cm by 4cm deep.

Framed in hardwood box white frame.

FAQs

Where are you based?

I live and work in Devon in the south west of the UK.

What is your process?

My paintings are inspired by the wilderness and natural spaces such as moorland, the south west UK coastline and the dramatic wide open skies and the ever changing weather fronts.

I create my paintings building the paint up in layers to build texture and atmosphere. I like to transfer the energy and feeling of my subject with big gestural marks using a variety of wide brushes and scrapers. A suggestion of land, nature or coastline is achieved through mark making with various tools and organic lines.

Painting the contrast of light against dark is a strong part of my process to mirror the breathtaking drama of the weather that is something that moves me everyday while living here in Devon.

My paintings bring life and the wild to the viewer and their home and although my paintings feel spacious they have a subtle detail that continues to reveal itself over and over continuing to feed the soul.

What materials do you use?

When creating original artworks I paint on premium stretched deep edge canvas. I paint with the highest quality Acrylic paint using a variety of my favourite brushes and tools that I have practiced using for over 10 years.

Some of my collections, such as the ‘At Home’ collection are created using oil paint with cold wax medium on wooden panels and applied with scrapers and knives. These original one off pieces are then framed in a St Ives wooden tray frame.

Is there a way to see what the artwork might look like on my wall before buying?

Yes, if you are on my mailing list, you can request a room 'mockup'. Simply send me a picture of the wall you'd like to place the art on, with some of the room included in the shot, and I will create a mockup for you to show you how the artwork will look in your home or space.

Do you offer bespoke commissions?

Following your initial enquiry we have an initial discussion to decide upon the design. You can share with me about where it will be hung and perhaps about your decor if that is relevant. You may have a picture of a special place that you want to be reflected in the piece. We will look at my past paintings as a reference for composition, style, colour palette and atmosphere to create a guide for me before I begin. I will create you your own original painting over the course of a few weeks.  I will communicate with you partway through the process and also towards the end to ensure we are on track.

I take a deposit at the beginning of the process and then we complete the payment when the painting is finished and ready for delivery or collection. I give you a price quote for the painting as well as the optional framing and the p and p if required. Costs depend on the size but are in line with my original paintings in my shop. I love fulfilling commissions and welcome your inquiry.
